20 Minute Free Crochet Headband Pattern For Beginners

I’ve been meaning to post another free pattern for a while to thank all of my subscribers and followers.  My apologies for the long wait, I promise to have a few more for you guys in the coming months!

For all of you mommy’s with young daughters, this pattern is for you!  I was inspired to create a free crochet headband pattern by my daughter Leanna.  Leanna loves having long hair, but with her curls and active lifestyle it can really get out of control.  Like honestly, she looks crazy by the end of the day.   So, to keep her beautiful curls out of her face, I wanted to make a headband that  is stretchy and comfortable.  I used a soft worsted weight yarn so that the hairband can also be pulled over the ears on cooler days!

I have written out and posted the free pattern for this quick and easy headband below on this page.

  1. Made this for my 6 year old and it came out too big. Super cute pattern though. Any suggestions on how to make it smaller? Her head measured about 21 inches.

    1. Hi Stacey, you could try using a smaller hook. Everyone crochets a bit differently and its possible that your tension was looser. Using a smaller hook would correct that.

  2. This pattern is gorgeous. Would a smaller size yarn work for this? I’m wanting to make smaller headbands for my nieces.

  3. I love this pattern. I have been teaching 2 of my grand daughters, ages 7 and 9 how to crochet. They will love this project! Thanks for sharing.
